Gym programmes

All reputable gyms will have a series of programmes, starting with a ‘back to fitness’ programme for the complete beginner; some gym instructors hold a cardio/stroke rehabilitation qualification, this enable them to advise and design rehabilitation workouts after heart conditions, strokes, hypertension (high blood pressure) as well as many other cardiovascular related conditions. The programmes include a gentle introduction to the gym machines.

Exercise bikes

All bikes (apart from motorbikes) are exercise bikes, but the ones in the gym don’t go anywhere. As there is no impact stress and the load can be set to vary from ‘no resistance’ to ‘very hard work’ they are useful for warming up before your main exercise starts, and can form the basis of a whole fitness programme. They take up little space, so can be used in a spare room and stored away.
